This prominent organization largely increased African-American involvement within the medical field, a privilege once denied. "The National Medical Association (NMA) is the nation’s oldest and largest organization representing African American physicians and health professionals in the United States. The NMA was founded in 1895, during an era in US history when the majority of African Americans were disenfranchised." -NMA

National Hospital Association (NHA)
The National Hospital Association had such an impact on black operated hospitals because it provided a strong efficient support system black hospitals previously lacked from the government. "The NMA established the National Hospital Association [NHA] to ensure proper standards of education and efficiency in black hospitals. The founding of the NHA, which was to operate under the direction of the NMA, launched the black hospital movement " -Vanessa Northington Gamble
