Dr. Daniel Hale Williams
Dr. Daniel Hale William's work as a pioneering physician, and advocate for an African American presence in medicine improved the medical rights of African Americans. "Dr. Daniel Hale Williams (1856-1931), the founder of Provident Hospital, was born in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. His speeches were printed and influenced black leaders in other cities to consider starting hospitals. Throughout his career, he urged black physicians to become leaders in their communities".

Daniel Hale Williams is still being recognized today for his many accomplishments: "In 2002, scholar Molefi Kete Asante listed Daniel Hale Williams on his list of 100 Greatest African Americans."
